What we can support
The Kalliopi Fund announces a programme dedicated to supporting the international mobility of artists and other professionals working in the field of contemporary visual art. The programme aims to strengthen the international connections of the Czech art scene and to create conditions for long-term professional development through residencies, collaborations, research, and educational opportunities abroad.
The programme supports international travel and stays that enable participants to gain new experience, expand their professional networks, and establish lasting international relationships. It is intended for individuals seeking to develop their artistic or professional practice through engagement with an international context.
What is the support intended for?
The programme is intended primarily to support:
residency programmes,
research and study trips,
professional internships,
participation in professional development programmes,
the development of international collaborations,
other forms of professional mobility with a clearly defined purpose.
Support may be used to cover travel, accommodation, residency or registration fees, visa and administrative costs, and other direct expenses related to the mobility project.
Applications may also include a contribution towards subsistence costs (meals and incidental personal expenses) in the form of a flat-rate allowance. The maximum contribution is CZK 500 per day, for a maximum of 30 days.
Ineligible activities and expenses
tourism or private travel,
activities without a clearly defined professional purpose,
production costs not directly related to the mobility project,
the purchase of materials, equipment, or technical devices,
activities with a predominantly commercial purpose,
salaries and fees for applicants.
Who is the programme intended for?
The programme is intended for professional artists, curators, art theorists, and other professionals working in the field of contemporary art.
There is no age limit for applicants. Applicants are required to explain why support is justified and relevant to their current professional situation.
The programme is not open to secondary school or university students, with the exception of doctoral candidates.
How to apply
Applications are submitted through the dedicated online system available on the Kalliopi website. Applicants are required to create an account, complete the online application form, and upload the required supporting documents.
Application management and communication are conducted through the online system and by email.
Please provide the most realistic budget possible. Our aim is to support projects in full whenever feasible and to avoid reducing the amount awarded.
Conditions for Awarding Support
Participation in the programme is conditional upon a confirmed collaboration with an international partner. Applications must include an invitation letter, a letter of acceptance, or another document issued by the host organisation, institution, or partner confirming the planned mobility.
Applications must also include a clearly formulated statement of purpose. Applicants are required to explain how the proposed stay relates to their existing artistic or professional practice, what activities will be undertaken during the mobility, and what professional benefits they expect to gain from it.
Only mobility projects taking place after the funding decision has been made are eligible for support. Applicants are therefore advised to pay close attention to the evaluation schedule and the announcement of results. The Foundation does not provide retrospective funding for ongoing or already completed mobility projects.
How are applications assessed
Applications are accepted on a rolling basis throughout the year and are assessed within regular bi-monthly evaluation cycles.
Applications are reviewed by the internal selection committee of the Kalliopi Foundation.
In assessing applications, particular consideration is given to:
the contribution of the mobility project to the applicant’s further professional development;
the quality and relevance of the host organisation or partner;
the relationship between the proposed mobility and the applicant’s existing practice;
the potential for long-term impact and future international collaborations;
the appropriateness of the budget and the feasibility of the proposed timetable.
Expected Impact
The Kalliopi Fund supports mobility projects that contribute to long-term professional development and the establishment of international networks. Applicants are therefore encouraged to consider how they intend to further develop or share the knowledge and experience gained through the mobility. This may take the form of a public presentation, lecture, workshop, published text, open studio event, the development of a subsequent project, or another form of continuing collaboration.
Such an outcome is not a condition of support, but it may help to demonstrate the anticipated benefits and longer-term impact of the proposed mobility.
