Karolína Juřicová
curator
I have been active in the field of contemporary art for approximately ten years. During that time, as an independent curator and art theorist I have worked in associations, student projects, commercial galleries, and have collaborated with state institutions. Over time I have moved through different roles, but the consistent line throughout has been my position as a curator. I have also often worked in the role of a mediator – connecting artists, curators, collectors, producers, graphic designers, or leading gallery teams. For many years my professional base was DSC Gallery, where I worked as a partner and gallery manager. I currently work freelance and am preparing to enter a new gallery environment. At the same time, I teach the course Art Market at Tomas Bata University in Zlín.
I am happy to consult studio work, completed works or series, artistic visions, or installation principles. Together we can focus on preparing an exhibition, presenting a portfolio, communicating with collectors and gallerists, or developing a long-term strategy – for example regarding pricing or gradual career development. Curatorially, I often conceive exhibition projects as a dialogue between individual artists or as thematic situations that allow for new readings of their work. An important role in my thinking is also played by the relationship between contemporary art and art history – working with references, reinterpretations, or subtle interventions into iconic images and visual motifs. Mentoring is especially suitable for emerging artists or for those who find themselves at a transitional moment, for example before their first exhibition, during a shift in their practice, or while searching for a clearer direction in their work. At the beginning we will jointly define topics and expectations, but our meetings should naturally respond to the development of your work. I emphasize sensitive but honest reflection – the aim is not to evaluate the work but to help better understand it, articulate it, and develop it further. I prefer to meet in person, ideally in Prague, or directly in the studio.
