Jana Bernartová

visual artist

As a visual artist, during my studies I passed through several “media” studios. I began my higher education at the Faculty of Art and Architecture in Liberec in the studio of Stanislav Zippe. I completed my master’s studies in the Intermedia Studio of Václav Stratil at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Brno and my doctoral studies in the Supermedia Studio of Federico Díaz at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague. Already my time at the university in Liberec provided a background for working with the latest technologies and an understanding of their possibilities as well as their limits, which is strongly reflected in my work. I primarily deal with the tension between the virtual world and lived reality, between data and their material outputs, or with error in the digital image. I also enter the field of contemporary art from the position of a pedagogue and curator. Since 2016 I have organized the international festival Art Week Liberec. In recent years I have exhibited, among other places, at the Gočár Gallery in Pardubice, at 8smička in Humpolec, at the Prague City Gallery, and at the Centre Européen d’Actions Artistiques Contemporaines in Strasbourg.

I offer space for discussion around a specific work-in-progress project, exhibition, or artistic research. The collaboration may also include a practical dimension – for example consultations on the production preparation of an exhibition project, technological processes, communication with galleries, or questions related to the art field and the presentation of one’s work. However, this practical part should not prevail over the consultative part focused on the artistic project or topic itself. The collaboration should take place according to the needs of the project, and mentoring includes balanced feedback that incorporates both positive responses and constructive critique. We will primarily meet in person in Prague or in Liberec.
